e-Passport

Who can apply for e-passport?

If you have a previous or existing MRP, you can either apply for reissue of MRP (with or without correction) or for e-passport. On the other hand, if you have a previous handwritten passport without having an MRP or you are applying for getting a Bangladeshi passport for the first time, you can no longer get an MRP. In that case, you need to apply for e-passport.

To apply for e-passport, you must have either a Bangladeshi NID card or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) having 17digit number which is verifiable at everify.bdris.gov.bd.

Please follow the instructions in https://www.epassport.gov.bd.

Tracking the Status

You can check the status of your application at https://www.epassport.gov.bd/authorization/application-status

Delivery

In-person: Once the e-passport is ready for pick-up, either the applicant or the authorized representative having a Bangladeshi NID card may come to the Consulate to receive it in-person. Delivery time is between 2pm to 3 pm.

By mail: The applicant can provide, preferably at the time of enrolment, a self-addressed envelope with appropriate postage stamp and a copy of Bangladeshi NID card of himself/herself or that of the authorized representative so that when the printed passport comes from Dhaka, it can be delivered by mail. In case of providing the NID copy of the authorized individual, the authorization letter must contain the signatures of both the applicant and the authorized person. The applicant must provide a self-addressed return envelope (prepaid/with appropriate postage stamps) and tracking number of Priority/Express Mail of USPS only. Return envelope of FedEx is not accepted as it charges the Consulate, rather than the applicant for overweight of the return mail (or for any other reasons). Applicants belonging to same mailing address can send their applications together in one envelope and enclose one return envelope.

Please keep in mind that it is not possible to activate and issue e-passport without the fingerprint of the applicant or the copy of Bangladeshi NID of the authorized representative.
